PTE Listening: Multiple Choice, Choose Multiple Answer

PTE Tips for Multiple Choice, Choose Multiple Answer

Multiple Choice, Choose Multiple Answer is part of a listening module of the PTE test. Test takers are required to listen to the text and pick the correct options based on that.

This test assesses your ability to listen to the audio, understand its central theme, and identify the explicit as well as the implicit meaning of it.

Utilize the first 7 seconds

The seven seconds that come before the audio begins, should be used to go through the questions and the options provided. It may not seem like a lot of time, but it can be used to quickly skim through the options. Know that you don’t have to go through all the options in their entirety. All you have to do is to get a general idea as to what the audio is going to present. Once you have an understanding as to what the audio is going to be about, you will be better equipped to understand it.

Listen Actively

It’s important that you don’t stay idle while the audio is being played. Keep one eye on the options at all times and try to evaluate the options at the same time. This will ultimately help you to eliminate a few options or even identify the correct one. This will cut down the time you spend on choosing the right answer that can be used to review the answer later.

Keep a notepad handy

Remembering everything can become quite difficult as the information keeps coming in through the audio. That is why it is important to have a notepad handy. As soon as you hear a key point, it is important that you note it down. This will ensure that you are able to select the right answer quickly as it will be present right in front of you.

Be aware of negative marking

This is one of the few sections of the PTE test that contains negative marking. That is why it is important that you only select options that you are sure of. If you feel that you are only sure of one option, choose only that. Do not risk your marks by selecting options that could be wrong potentially. However, if you are not sure of any of the given options, go with your best guess and select one. Anyway, the score cannot be less than zero.

Finalize and Review the answers

Don’t be in a hurry to submit the answers once the audio ends. Even if you have found the answers while listening, go through the questions and the options once more. There is always a possibility that you may have picked an incorrect option in a hurry.

Make sure that you have a good reason for selecting the correct option and that the answer makes sense grammatically. Always review your answers before submitting them.

Practice

Before you sit for the test, ensure that you have had enough practice under your belt. Your vocabulary and your grammatical knowledge will come in handy in this module. But it is only through practice that you will be able to hone your listening skills, ward off distractions, and concentrate fully on the task at hand.

Multiple-choice, choose multiple answers is a straightforward PTE listening module that can you can ace if you follow the strategies mentioned above.

The fact that it contains negative marking can make it a bit tricky.

However, if you practice this module beforehand, ensure that you have a good reason for your answers, and do not rush your choice, there is no reason why you shouldn’t get high grades.
